WESTDOC covers from 6pm to 8am Monday to Friday and then from 6pm Friday through until 8am Monday.


On arrival from Westport into Louisburgh, take the left at the ‘square’/crossroads and surgery is 150m on the left. There are ample parking facilities with wheelchair parking spaces available.

Dr. Colm Staunton is now providing joint and other injections for a variety of musculoskeletal conditions.

Joint injections are used in the treatment of muscle and joint inflammatory reactions in areas of the body such as the wrists, ankles, shoulders, hips and knees.

Dr. Patricia Henaghan graduated from the Royal College of Surgeons, Dublin in 1971 and completed her post-graduate work in University College Hospital, Galway.

Since 1976, Dr. Henaghan has been in General Practice in Louisburgh. She has a special interest in Asthma, Women’s Health and Family Planning and is an instructing doctor in Family Planning.

Nurse Colette Gibbons graduated from UCH Galway as general nurse in 1988 and as a midwife in 1991. After qualifying, she worked for 10 years in Waterford as a midwife and while there she completed her Diploma in General Nursing in WIT in 1996. She moved to Mayo in 2000 where she worked in Mayo General Hospital. In 2004, Nurse Gibbons commenced work in Dr Henaghan's practice. She has remained up-to-date with the latest research in nursing and general practice, taking part in courses including Immunisation Updates, Cervical Screening, Family Planning, Ear Care, Warfarin Clinics, and Antenatal Checks.

Dr. Eileen O’Connor grew up seven miles from Westport and graduated with a degree in Medicine from the National University of Ireland, Galway in 2007. After internship, she commenced General Practice training in 2008 with the Donegal Specialist Training Scheme. During the scheme she worked in GP practices in Ballybofey, Clonmany and Letterkenny and graduated from the scheme in 2012. In her final year of training, she also obtained a postgraduate diploma in Clinical Education from NUIG. In 2012 she took up a post, working as a G.P. in Foster Medical Clinic, Australia. In 2013, Dr. O’Connor returned to her native County Mayo and joined Dr. Henaghan in practice. In January 2014 she became a full partner.

Dr. Colm Staunton

Dr. Colm Staunton graduated from University College Dublin with a degree in medicine in 2010. After completing his internship in St. James' Hospital in 2011, he travelled to Australia to work in Gold Coast Hospital, Queensland. He returned home to Ireland to enrol in the Northeastern GP training scheme, which he completed this in 2016. Colm has been working in Louisburgh Medical Practice since 2017. He holds a diploma in child health; a diploma in obstetrics and women's health; a diploma in tropical medicine; and certificates in palliative care and family planning.

Bria Connolly, a native of Westport town studied Podiatric Medicine in the National University of Ireland Galway, and qualified with an Honours Degree in 2015. Since qualifying, Bria has opened her own clinic PODOMOTION, PODIATRY CLINIC on Mill Street in the town of Westport.

Podiatry is a healthcare profession that specialises in the management of disease and disorder of the lower limb and foot.

On Friday 21st of September the GP Buddy National GP Awards took place in the Shelbourne Hotel, Dublin. The Awards recognise the tireless efforts of those working on the ground to improve the lives of patients all over the country. General Practitioners and healthcare professionals from the recently qualified to the long-established are recognised for their dedication, commitment and innovative contributions to community-based healthcare in Ireland.

This year Dr. Patricia Henaghan and Dr. Eileen O’ Connor along with their team at Louisburgh Medical Practice were shortlisted for Rural Practice of the Year. Dr. Eileen O’ Connor received the Patients' Choice Award. This is awarded to a GP who is recognised by their patients as having a noteworthy positive impact on the patient’s experience. In 2017 Nurse Colette Gibbons received Practice Nurse of the Year, while Dr. O’ Connor was shortlisted for GP of the Year. These accolades are a credit to the rural based practice.
